Investment Any asset held for gain.
Independent Contractor An individual who works on a specific project for a specified period of time. Independent contractors are not considered employees of the entity who engages them and therefore do not receive benefits that employees receive from their employer.
Internet An interconnected system of networks that connects computers around the world via the TCP/IP protocol providing connectivity. Services such as the Web and email use the Internet to transfer data to individuals, researchers, etc.
Internal Revenue Service (IRS) The federal agency that collects income taxes and is responsible for enforcing tax laws in the United States.
ISP - Internet Service Provider The entity that provides you with an Internet service, typically a cable company or telephone company.
Joint Venture An business arrangement between two or more parties to explore a particular project or business, with the sharing of profits or losses to be clearly defined in the joint venture agreement.
Jurisdiction The authority of a court to hear and decide a case. A court must have both the ability to hear the type of case at issue as well as the authority over the parties in order for its decision to be valid.
